Conical leaf hat
The hat is stitched from dried palm leaves over rings of bamboo, with a silk strap tied under the chin. To the market, out to the fields or cycling to work, it kept off the sun and the rain, and when it got too hot you took it off and fanned yourself with it.
The famous “poem hats” of Huế hide pictures and verses between the two layers of leaves, only visible when you hold the hat up to the sunlight. Kids loved sneaking a go in mum's hat, so wide it covered their whole face.
Do you remember? Whose conical hat do you remember best?
