Street Beat

Those internet-café nights typing arrows to club music, now danced on Nguyễn Huệ walking street, by Hoàn Kiếm lake, in Hội An's old town or under a Mekong wedding tent.

  1. Each bar a row of arrows appears on street traffic signs: type the row, then press SPACE as the bird flying along the beat bar lands on the bronze-drum face (the fourth beat).
  2. Judgements PEAK, SMOOTH, OKAY, OFF and DUD follow how close you hit; build streaks for bonus points, light all six bulbs to GO WILD for double points, and finish each song with a triple-point signature move.
  3. Five difficulty levels from Learner to Legendary: longer rows, reversed keys (press the opposite way), double keys and blackout turns you must remember.
  4. Four modes: Free-for-all; Team dance (Red Flame Trees vs Purple Crape Myrtles); Call & Response (like Vietnamese folk duet singing, a clean turn throws a harder row at the other side); Bamboo dance (step to the bamboo-pole rhythm of the Northwest: three open beats, one clap).
  5. Eight original songs synthesized right in your browser: vinahouse, V-pop dance, ballad remix, bolero cha-cha, hip-hop, Tết remix, lofi and a bamboo-pole beat. Nine stages: Nguyễn Huệ, Hoàn Kiếm lake, an old apartment rooftop, a Mekong wedding tent, Đà Lạt night market, Hội An old town, a 2008 internet café, a school yard and a moonlit Northwest village.
  6. A free wardrobe: modern áo dài, bà ba blouses, school uniforms, bombers, the national-team jersey, conical hats, honeycomb sandals… Online rooms for up to 6 with spectators, room chat and cheer stickers.

Computer: arrows ← ↓ ↑ → (or W A S D, numpad 4 2 8 6) to type the row, SPACE is the beat key, Esc pauses. Phone (landscape): arrow cross on the left, drum button on the right. A calibration screen compensates for speaker and Bluetooth lag.
