Bánh mì sandwich
Every morning it was the same: stop at the bánh mì cart at the corner, “one with pork, no onions please”. She split the hot, crackly roll, spread pâté and butter, layered pork roll, cucumber and coriander, splashed on soy sauce and wrapped it in old newspaper.
You ate it while cycling to school, crumbs all over your white shirt. Decades later, far from home, it's that smell of charcoal-toasted bread in the morning you still miss.
Do you remember? Where was your go-to bánh mì cart in your school days?
