Rubber-band skipping rope

Nobody bought this rope; everyone chipped in. Each kid brought a few hair bands or rubber bands from shopping bags, and they were looped one into another until the rope was several arm-spans long. Two kids held the ends tight, starting at ankle height, then knee, hip, armpit, all the way up to head height.

The higher it went, the higher you had to jump, and at head height you needed a run-up, or you hooked the rope down with your foot before leaping over. Touch the rope and you swapped places with a holder. School skirts, flip-flops, dripping sweat and endless giggling until the drum called everyone back to class.

Do you remember? How high could you jump: hip, armpit or above your head?
