Ice pop

On summer afternoons the ice cream man cycled through every alley with a styrofoam box on the back, honking a little horn or ringing a bell. The moment they heard it, kids came running with coins they had begged from their mum.

Mung bean, coconut milk, durian, on a thin bamboo stick. You had to eat fast before it ran down your arm, then kept the stick to play with, or to count how many you had eaten all summer.
