CRT desktop computer

The CRT monitor was as big and heavy as a TV, on top of a flat beige case with a green power light. You switched it on, waited a long time, then the startup music played and a teal desktop full of icons appeared.

Computer class at school meant shoe covers and two or three kids to a machine. After school it was the internet café down the street for games and chatting with friends in yellow smiley faces, followed by a scolding at home for spending all that money.
