How to play: Chinese chess
A xiangqi board on the front porch, two uncles squatting over it and a small crowd whispering advice.
Red moves first. Checkmate the enemy general to win; a side with no legal move (stalemated) also loses.
The general and advisors stay in the palace. Elephants can't cross the river and are blocked by a piece on their midpoint. Horses are blocked by a piece next to them.
Chariots move straight. Cannons move like chariots but capture by jumping over exactly one piece. Soldiers may move sideways after crossing the river.
The two generals may never face each other on the same file with nothing in between.
Perpetual check (repeating the position by checking every move) loses for the checking side; other threefold repetitions are draws; 60 moves without a capture is a draw.
Tap a piece then the point to move to, or drag it. Online: pick a time control, open a room and share the link, or join a room from the lobby.
