“Brick” phone

Around the turn of the millennium, mobile phones were big and heavy, and Vietnamese people lovingly called them “bricks”. Drop one and the cover and battery flew off, but snap it back together and it worked just fine.

One charge lasted a week. You typed messages on the number keys, pressing three times for a single letter, and counted every character to keep the bill down. Out of credit, you played snake or composed your own ringtone.

Do you remember? When did you get your first mobile phone?

The mobile phone tough as a brick: a battery that lasted a week, a green screen, the snake game, and text messages counted character by character.
