Flower-painted thermos

Boil one kettle in the morning, pour it into the thermos, and there was hot water for tea all day. The shell was painted steel covered in big flowers. Inside was a silvered glass lining, and the mouth was closed with a cork.

Children were told again and again to hold it with both hands. Drop it and you heard a soft “pop” as the glass inside shattered. When guests arrived, the first thing anyone did was pour from the thermos and brew a pot of tea.

Do you remember? Did anyone in your house ever break the thermos? Who was it?
