The video rental shop

At weekends the family went to the rental shop to pick films. Shelves ran from floor to ceiling, covers were colour photocopies, and long series came bundled with rubber bands. Rentals were by the day, with fines if you were late.

Series ran to dozens of episodes and the family binge-watched until late; a jammed disc got a wipe with a towel and another try. Then the Internet got faster, and the shops quietly closed one by one.
