How to play: Minesweeper

Minesweeper came with every old PC, and taught a lot of people what the right mouse button was for.

  1. Click a square to open it. The number shows how many mines are in the 8 squares around it.
  2. Right-click (or long-press on a phone) to flag a square you think hides a mine. Turn on “? marks” and a second right-click marks a square you're unsure about.
  3. Click a number that already has enough flags around it (or middle-click) to open the rest quickly.
  4. Open every square without a mine to win. Your first click is always safe. Click the smiley for a new game.
  5. Best times are kept per level. The results show the board's 3BV (the fewest clicks that clear it) and your efficiency.

Left click to open, right click to flag, middle click to chord; keyboard: arrow keys, Enter to open, F to flag, F2 for a new game; on phones: long-press to flag or switch on flag mode.
